I like the Panasonic RX-DS20 (or DS30). Probably the best-sounding boombox ever. Sleek looks, great sound, deep bass, and sturdy construction. You can usually find them used on eBay.

Not my photo, stolen from the web. But I have this in storage somewhere, and I can attest that one listen to this and you'll forget about that Panasonic RX-DT680 which would seem like a toy by comparison. Anyone who's owned Sony's of this era knows what I'm talking about. Sony released many versions of this style boombox but most don't have the CD or aren't as powerful. This one is the bomb. If you have one, hold onto it. If you can find one, snap it up!

I haven’t heard that one, but I do have the Sony cfd770 and when using the line in to play music it blows my dt680 out of the water. The bass the power it’s on another level. I have a new respect for these older Sony’s. I just wish it sounded as good from other sources, not just the line in. I think Sony handicapped this box on purpose to not overwhelm the speakers.
