Went to Home Depot today to get a new angle grinder, afterwards stopped at a spot that always has a boombox on the shelf..(mostly low end minis)
Seen this JVC without a price tag on it..then, while waiting for the owner to get there to tell me a price, I spotted a midsize Hitachi!
When I talked to dude he said they normally get 40 bucks out of em, but I could have the JVC for $30, and the Hitachi for $20.. Then he says, "the bigger ones, like twice this size go for about 100 dollars on eBay".. (I had the innocent/oblivious expression on my face)
Obviously I tested them out in the store before purchasing.. Everything works on the JVC including the nice decks, it was just missing a speaker wire on the back.. The Hitachi has a replacement antenna and one of the tabs is broken off the battery door.. The deck did play for a bit, but started eating the tape.. I also think the left woofer is not working but tweeter is..
Both units need deoxing and cleaned up, but it's not every day I find boxes locally!

Wow! Nice PC-W300. I need one of those to continue building my collection of JVC P-Compo systems but the ones I see on eBay here are invariably broken or have been abused. Yours looks amazing!
That was a great bit of hunting, these boxes are a seriously good buy.

I had one of those PC-W300's once.
It's a very nice unit.
The Hitachi is very nice too.
I like the look of it.

Yes it does! It's inconveniently heavy.. I assume the only reason it has a handle on top is to lift it up to the shelf where it will stay.. It's not a carry around box!
I found it on the steps in the very back of the antique store and lugged it up front to test it out..
The red one is sweet!View attachment 12889

So Home Depot has a recycle room or something?
Ha, the antique store down the road from Home Depot.. Which I'm 99.99% sure my VZ-2000 came from last year.. The ladies I bought the Sharp from said they got it at an antique store in that town.. It was clean too! Member Patron has it now..
Last time I was there they had a Sanyo M9935k and Sears SR2100, but passed on em.. I always gotta check when I'm in that town!

It could be, assuming that JVC also made one of their useful carrying bags for it, complete with a strap that can either be attached to the brackets the handle attaches to, or fitted with the bag, like so:

OK, so it's going to be heavier than one of those common lightweight one-piece JVCs, but these straps are actually not all that uncomfortable and it would probably take a good half hour for the weight of the box to pull your shoulder out of joint!

:agree: with everything Scott says, cause I really like mine. I have two sets of speakers for it, one black and one grey.

Heavy beast!

I really like the build and sound of this JVC! I'm probably going to do a speaker swap like milosancho, because I have a set of AIWA speakers the same ohms.. Got em hooked up right now and they sound awesome! Warm sound filling up the entire shop!
