Spent 2 3/4 Hours Working On My Panasonic FW-20!!

Hi everyone-I just recenly aquired a Panasonic FW-20 at a yard sale for 2.60!!
It was all good except the cassette decks were dead.
The lower belts that run the take-up spools had turned to goo!!
What a mess-I cleaned that all up & put a good belt that I took off of a Lenox Sound cassette stereo that I bought at Goodwill Friday for 2.49.
I got the antenna off of it & put it on my RCA boombox I got recently, the belt to and it still has a working radio.

After taking it apart about 5 times and doing some tuner alighment & alot of cleaning,tape 1 now works perfect except the pause won't stay down.
I also had a bad belt that I put onto the tape 2 (better than nothing?)and cleaned all of that up and that works kind of but it needs to be replaced(the belt).
The counter was working & the ff & rew, somehat also on tape 2.
All I need is a couple of belts and this thing will rock beautifully-tape 1 already does.

I guess it was worth it,I love this little thing and it looks fantastic with the dark black paint and the 5 band eq.
The sound is getting better as I use it.
This thing had an inch of dirt on it when I bought it.
I'm happier now!!

Hi Tony-On Sunday -there is no way to figure time-It's whatever you want to do day or just relax!
It's really good experience for me to as I'm not an expert.
I now know this boombox pretty well.
With new belts it will be killer!
The goo is a killer-glad that's over.
I'm relaxing now listening to Van Mcoy "The Hustle"!! And other 1979' taped music from High school!!!!

Hi Johnny-I have a fair amount of exp. but every boombox is different so it just took so long because it was so gummed up,those old belts just turn to a mess! Things kept getting gummed up in there to,releases & stuff.Much better now!!
I work on the floor with a moving blanket,no room for a workbench w/light!! Next place I move will,a nice one with worklight-movable to see right in those boomboxes.
I do have ext. photos of it in collection but won't be taking it apart until the belts come in.
I'll take photos then.
