In 1984 Sony released a very insignificant looking plastic bodied Walkman with one high end feature. This recording walkman came with headphones that had microphones built into the stem portion of the headband on either side thus allowing use of the listener's ears to actually reflect sound into the microphones during recording of ambient sounds producing a very realistic stereophonic separation . The only drawback of such BINAURAL recordings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binaural_recording#History) is that they are best enjoyed only through earphones as this mimics the original spatial separation of the microphones and the levels of perception.
