Speaker Swaps

I dunno If i shoulda posted this in tech talk or in general chat if i posted wrong then slap me on the hand.

anywhoo... If you guys have ever done a speaker swap on one of your beater boxes or a minty box, post your pics up!
I wanna know if there was anyone brave enough to pull it off.

I'll start... Got this McDonald Instruments box for free and the speakers were rotted out because of water damage, so it gave me an excuse to put new speakers in it. I put 5.25" woofers from a Mercedes-Benz 300E and Power acoustic Tweeters.

Yes those are mounting tabs (no screw holes)

Sounds Great, Very Clear and crisp and it has no trouble getting loud!

this is how it is with jvc-m70 speakers the lasonics are going in my blockbuster box as the ones that are in the box are a little ripped up

If it makes the box sound better, and doesn't drastically affect the look, then upgrade to better speakers. I think that for some earlier boxes their sound could be greatly improved by adding better speakers.
I'm always scooping out speakers and I wonder what box they may fit.

Nice idea! How was the test drive after you were done??? Does it run (er, I mean sound) better now????

Nice work, the MacDonald is a strong box so it should work well with some improved speakers.

i forgot i have one of those boxes thanks to my good friend fatdog i was going to swap speakers but maybe sometime when i get a chance ,, its a nice box and loud

nope! the cap is already pre installed in the tweeters

well i dont know how it originally sounded due to the speakers rotting out, but after i was done with it, i does sound very clean

Great work Radio Raccoon!
Swapping speakers around is great fun and can really improve a box's sound.

Most vintage blasters have very good amps that can handle modern speakers with
better sound reproduction.

Love that radio too!

I have done this to a pc55 and to two m90s plus i bought an m90 already done. they sound much better with new speakers installed.

any place to get speakers for boomboxes, i find that they are really hard to find! I lucked out with this box.
Other than parts express what else is there?

Whenever I've replaced speakers I go for car audio speakers.

Try having a look around places that sell second hand car audio.
