Built many speaker boxes in my time. Used this fiber fill stuff in the cabinets to 'trick' speakers to sound like it was in a bigger box. So I was thinking of doing it with my Panasonic RX-DT680. Anyone here used fiber fill on a boom box? I saw this post on an XM Radio site but man it's ancient thread! Looked like a hell of a cool idea - except the stock speakers in my unit are OK so I wasn't going to change them, heck, I ain't going to change anything on my box! Thoughts?

I have tried fibre fill, and have thought of doing it to the 680 as well.

They are a ported enclosure, so not sure how that might afftect it. ;-)

Good idea. The Telefunken Studio 1's boxes are fiber-filled, and we all know how good those sound.

My uneducated suspicion is that it would make bass notes respond slower and less "tight", and bias it towards "warm room-filling" bass instead. So it all depends on what kind of music you like.

When I upgraded the speakers in my PC-55, I loaded the speaker boxes with fiber fill. It was definitely an improvement.

that is pretty sick! I love it! Thanks everyone for your input - what do you know, it's the weekend! I might have time actually try it. Better to hear other people's experiences on something subjective, like audio stuff. But if you are curious what the scientific answer is, here's the link:
