Hi

I purchased a sony FH9 but the cassette deck (same as the one in the FH7) is not working.
First I must say I'm not tech-savvy and don't know much about electronics. But I have a knowledgeable brother who is willing to help me if it does not take hours.

So it's not working, which according to what I've read is not a suprise.
What I did not know when I bought it (and got it shipped) is while the cassette lid was there, the cassette holder was missing... Yeah I should have noticed that but I'm new to the boomboxes scene. That and other details inside tell me that it was faulty and some one tried to fix it.
So I disassembled it. The gears and belts are still there and look ok.
When I put power on, the pause button blinks 4 or 5 times but thats all, no motor can be heard, nothing moves. When I put a cassette inside, ditto, nothing happens. When touching some buttons, if I listen very carefully, I can hear a very light "click" sound, probably a motor relay. My brother tells me the grease could have frown and prevent the motor from running. But there are several motors in the unit but even if one motor is blocked I think some faint noise would be heard.

Could it be the missing cassette holder than prevent some sort of detection?

I'm considering buy another faulty cassette deck to get the holder and other parts but that thing looks quite complicated to fix. If it's not just a belt and a detection sensor, I wonder if it's worth it.

I can't right now. I did not want to leave it open with pieces lying around so I reassembled it a few days ago.
Electronic boards seem ok. The power connector was loose but has been resoldered.
Someone in a topic talked about an essential part losing magnetism in those devices. Could it be that?

When I say the cassette holder is missing it includes the forward/rearward indicator.
