Sony FH visual assessment

Got the pics finally, as usual units are not the ones seller said he owns, but I'm still considering them (FH-10W, FH-33, a couple of units, separate FH-33 deck, matching CD player which I don't need, and speakers for newer FH series, which are the same size but I don't know if they could be powered properly by these units).

Speaking of those two models, are they of identical width? If so, perhaps I'll buy that spare FH-33 deck and replace ugly double deck on FH-10W with it.

Main problem as always is with visual assessment of woofers. I'll post two pics, and would appreciate opinion of forum members.

This one on the right worries me the most :-/

These are from FH-4...something I think, but I don't know if amplifier from older FH models can work them properly.

P.S. Anyone ever dealt with this sort of whatever on panel cover or LCD protective cover? What is it, some sort of corrosion, dirt...? Can it be fixed?

I'm asking because the rest of the unit looks almost mint.

Thanks in advance!

The LCD display with the black streaking at the top is bleed-through of the liquid crystal display itself. Sometimes the display does that if it's been cracked or pushed on too hard. The pnly way to fix it is to change out the LCD display with a new one.

The foam surrond on the right speaker is lifting form the looks of it & possibly fraying. I don't think they would be a great replacement. You might want to hold out for a parts box that has minty woofers, etc. Just my opinion, tho.

Thank you. Been reading about LCD in the meantime, your post just confirmed what I've read so far.

In different words, that FH-33 is a no no, since there is no way to find new LED display, apart from one from another unit, since on FH-33, everything except deck is one-piece (timer, tuner, amplifier and equalizer). That timer display is really something completely obsolete for unit as audio device, and yet it had to be bitten by exposure to whatever, just to make it look not vintage but ancient :annoyed:

The woofer on the right has some stain on the grill, I still don't know the source of stain, and later I've noticed that the one on the left has shiny rectangular aperture at the bottom partly covered, with something that can't be anything else than part of decayed foam that has been trapped by grill.

Those a bit curvy speakers are from FH-207, I've wrongly mentioned them as ones belonging to 4...something series.

I'll die without ever finding something decent., although I'm making compromise to convince myself to buy not exactly what I'd like to have, but to pick from what is available... :'-(

I have an FH-33 and they're not that good compared to say the 150R. So i wouldn't be concerned about that one passing you by so much.
