Hi All ! Newbie here and just starting on my journey into the wonderful world of boombox. I have a question regarding the Sony Cfs-88. I recently acquired one and it states at the back its power wattage is 22 watts. But i see pics in the web that some Cfs-88L models have 28 watts and some has 42 watts. Was there a amplifier wattage upgrade on the 88L models (Mine is just 88) on the later version? Does the increase power consumption correlates to increase amplifier wattage ?

Welcome, they do use different transformers for different regions due to supply voltage for that market. It doesn't mean that the output of the radio is any better or higher unless they have upgraded the amp chips from the earlier model. As a general rule the bigger the Transformer the better.

Greetings!
What you're seeing on the back of the box is power consumption.
Each country uses a different measurement standard, so they generally don't match.

The actual speaker output is 12 watts max, 6 watts per speaker

Thanks guys for the warm welcome and replies. Very informative replies and probably the power consumption wattage is proportional to the mains voltage of each region.

May I ask also, if it is normal for the CFS-88 to have a low voltage sensitivity aux input. I noticed that among my boomboxes , they easily distort when I raise the volume of my cp or pc using 3.5mm plugs to rca cable link. What I do is just keep the source input volume very low then just raise the volume of the CFS-88 to attain clean sound at higher volume.

one of the biggest disappointments ever the cfs 88 dude
I see your point Radio raheem, though for low volume and balanced sound , I think it's okay. It's more of a refined boombox akin to those low wattage vintage tube amps before. I upgraded the tweeter caps to "audiophile caps" and speaker sound improved much. I also replaced the volume, bass and treble potentiometers and replaced the main power cap, this made the sound more dynamic and cleaner. CFS-88 is best for jazz and audiophile vocal tracks.

They are micro-phone inputs, Not line inputs. High level input signal will cause distortion .
