I have taken some photos of the insides of my Sony CFM-140II mono boombox.

CFM-140II tape mechanism, tuner section and main board:

Speakers:

There are 2 speakers in the CFM-140II-a speaker and a small round shaped tweeter.

Notice how the the speakers in the front cabinet are connected to the main board by a connector.

Thanks for taking the effort to investigate. It looks like a pretty clean assembly.I only wish all boxes were so easy to come apart. That's a piezoelectric tweeter. The amount of output from them vary widely from one design to the next.I find the ones that put out a lot usually give a sharp edge to the highs. There are some boxes with Piezos I really like.Actually, I'm going to give Sony props for actually having any sort of tweeter in this box.In such a mini,it would have been tempting to just put nothing behind its facade. Many smaller boxes are made like that.

I have a few boxes with a plastic zip style tuner rack.It would seem to be a simpler way of moving the tuner marker. My small 3 piece Sony CFS-1200 has a rack that snapped in two.Too bad as it is a really pretty box for one of it's type.Though I should have known better,I actually tried to adapt a zip tie  Eventually I just put a stop on the end of the shortened rack sacrificing access to the lower frequencies on the radio band.

The AM antenna looks of a decent size. With easy belt access it should be possible to very easily to keep your mini on the road indefinitly.Again thanks for the detailed look inside!
