SONY CFD-770 A hidden BEAST

So I’ve had this Sony and the Panasonic dt680 for years. I always preferred the Panasonic, deep bass, nice warm sound one of the best boomboxes ever made.
The Sony got extremely loud and bass was great but not as strong as the Panasonic was at lower volume. I recently started using the mic line-in to play Spotify with the Panasonic and it sounded even better. Had more bass and volume than just the standard cd, tape tuner.

So out of curiosity I tried it on the Sony. IT BLEW ME AWAY!!!!! The BASS IS CHEST POUNDING. It completely obliterated my dt680. The deep bass was there it was fatter, stronger and room filling. I was shocked. It has now become my ultimate favorite. I don’t have a kaboom to compare it to but I feel really safe in saying it will blow the kaboom out of the water both in bass loudness and power.

If anybody here has a Sony cfd-770, try the mic line in and give me your thoughts. Thanks!!!

Well, at only 2x10 watts I'm not sure it would blow away a Kaboom. At least not a REAL Kaboom, i.e. the RV-DP100 or DP200.

I know. I thought the same thing. I have tried to understand the wattage disparity even compared to the higher wattage dt680 (when compared to the Sony). But sure enough it obliterated the dt680.

All the manufacturers (except Pioneer) have been known to BS about watts from time to time, so maybe the Panasonic was BS'ing about it. Or maybe the Sony's speakers are just more efficient.

Yes. I think Sony underrated this one. I’m just guessing here but I think they took the internals from one of their minisystems and restricted its output for boombox credentials. The bass is just that strong and especially noticeable through the mic-line in. Quick question: how hard is it to convert the mic line-in jack from mono to stereo?

Uh yeah, I don’t think so. If you’ve never personally heard a boombox with an actual subwoofer, you don’t know what you’re missing. That panny and Sony are not even in the same class with respect to either bass or volume on a kaboom. You’ll just have to try it and see for yourself. I’ve had that Panny and the bigger ones. I’ve also had many versions of that Sony cassette CD boombox. They’re not even close to being in the same league as full sized kabooms.

I’m only going on memory. I’ve heard it before but it was years ago.
