Sony CFD 5

[tapes]

Hey Everyone!

I picked up a Sony CFD 5 at the swap meet a couple weeks ago and have been trying to figure out what is wrong with the tape player. The CD player works but the tape doesnt. I dont want to mess this box up at all! so i wonder if anyone knows any good repairmen down in the san diego / so cal area? Let me know.

Sony CFD 5... one of the first boxes to have a CD Player...straight outta 85' and the cd player still works but the tape doesnt ahhhhhhhh... everything else is pretty mint... ive been playing tapes on my magnavox but i wanna play tapes and cds on the sony...

It could be something as simple as needing new belts. If you've never opened a boombox, you might as well learn now because you will most likely be doing more of it.

If the cassette spindles spin without a tape inserted, but don't spin with a tape, then the belts are extremely loose and need to be replaced.

If the cassette spindles don't spin at all without a cassette inserted, the belts could be broken or could have turned to black goo.

You will have to open it to find out. I'm sure a few members here can help with belt sizes too. Good luck!
