Another imported box appeared today after getting ripped off by customs.
Anyway, a clean up is required and new belts for the deck (anyone know if you have to take the entire inside chassis out to get at them?)

Need to work out what the bass controls are and that they work properly and for some reason it is turned on all the time...

What do you think ?

Great pick-up Doc! I have one, suprisingly, the bass is not what stands-out on the boombox, it's the amazing "highs"

Couple of pics after cleanup and now the deck is fully working again too !!!!

Just need to figure out why as soon as I put batteries in it turns on and the on/off switch doesn't switch it off :hmmm:

doc if the deck is still engaged somehow that would make the power stay on and bypass on off switch , you could try repeatedly pressing the record button then pressing stop ,and do the same with all the deck buttons too see if it helps .

Yes i think you are right the deck sounds like it is engaged and the motor is always turning it seems.
I'll try and give the record arm another clean as pressing rec and other buttons a lot doesn't seem to make any difference.
Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Put some elbow grease into freeing up the record bar but the deck is still engaging and the rec light is out so I guess it is something else causing it to engage. Perhaps the auto music search?!

 great cleaning job. Not sure but in one of my sharps it was the same problem - it turns to be dry solders which was causing bypassing the tape sleep mode and always in "ON" even the on/off switch didnt worked, before the fix i should press the pause to stop motor from running all the time . On my elphant was pretty same problem and there was a small barely noticeable crack on the mainboard, but the box was always on, cant turn it off and vice versa . Good luck dude. Im sure you'll get it 100% working. One more time congrats  .
