This one arrived last month as a bit of a mystery box in a bulk lot I bought and it's impressed me enough to get the full resto (although it was very tidy to begin with). I managed to line up a small bulk lot for AUD$300 containing:

Sanyo M2553F
Toshiba RT-130S
National RX-FM15F
Pioneer Disco Robo (this was the one I was interested in)
Sharp GF-450Z
and an "Audiosonic mid size box" as the seller wrongly identified.

So at the bottom of a very well packed box I pulled out the AutoSonic. I was instantly impressed by the heavy feel for its size (7.5kg) and once I unwrapped it I wasn't disappointed.
I really do love the style of this unit, from its nice convex tweeter grills and chrome surrounds, brushed aluminium 2 piece knobs, the blue behind the tuner window, the twin aerials and 7 LED VU meters, to the somewhat odd positioning of the bass/treble knobs.
It's got a real quality feel to it as well, feels really well built and solid. Made in '82 so it is from an era of quality builds which would explain the feel of this one and the fact it's still fully operational. 8 cell battery as well.
Anyway I hope you enjoy my pics, I mean it's definitely no coveted "grail box" but sometimes you just come across boxes that for one reason or another really strike a chord with you and this one has for me.......it's a handy sized box, well proportioned with some great styling (in my opinion anyway) and it sounds fantastic with crisp treble and enough bass for its size. Aesthetically this is fast becoming one of my favorite boxes and it's my current box to listen to!

Also I couldn't find any info on this model.......anybody have one or an AKA? All I know is that from a sticker on the back it's made in Taiwan.

Wow, good looking and fully featured mystery box! We're always on the look out for something different and I can guarantee I've not seen one of those.
The 15 watt max drivers have nice big magnets + proper tweeters. Huge alloy heat sink too is unusual for a one piece 12v box.

Congrats,

James.... :-)

That's gorgeous! Classic styling and in such clean condition too. A great score, especially as it was acquired as part of the supporting cast rather than being the star of the show!

Yeah James those big magnets certainly give it some kick......I think you'll be impressed at just how powerful and loud this one goes when I bring it over for a listen :)

That's one hell of a sweet looking box! Congrats!

75W consumption though, that's hilarious, there's no way it consumes that much.

There were no consequences for providing false information. Still aren't.

Nope, never seen that before. Does it say if it was Japanese, Korean or Taiwanese?

Looks fantastic. Great grills and I dig where the bass and treble knobs are.

A rare one indeed.

Still some gems to be had in this world!

Hey Chris yeah there's a little sticker on the back saying made in Taiwan. Apparently Goldstar had a few aka models and AutoSonic was one but I can't find a pic on Google of this particular one.....could be my rarest so far!

And yes Reli I thought that 75W was just a little ambitious too LOL

I had a Aiwa 3 piece 9 D cell box that had 70 watts on the back. It wasn't a powerful box so maybe they're just a little inefficient! :-)

One thing you got to love about this hobby is that SO MANY companies were making radios, all trying to get in on the HOT GAME at the time and it just opens up an almost endless supply of models and choices, even this many years later.

Some great finds Jimmy

I love these obscure Taiwanese and korean boxes more than the japan so called grails. Great score it really is rare and sweet

Agreed SystemAddict! The grails are pretty awesome.....got a few myself......but it's these ones I've never even heard of that really interest me.
