Talk about tiny! But still good-looking.
And unlike inferior LEDs, these ones dance to the radio AND tape player.......not just the tape player.
They belong to my Siemens RS-806, which is a re-styled Sanyo C7.
It is a true mini-component system, because the tuner, tape deck, and power supply are stacked components that can be separated.
The chrome speaker rings were a major selling point.
Nice styling for bedroom or office.
The handle is beef and such a pleasure to use.
Thick metal and smooth.
To remove the handle, you first pull the locks back.....
And then simply pull it out......
Battery/power supply is very unique, because the door is on the front instead of in the rear. Very convenient.
One weakness of this box is the knobs are TINY.....
The tuner knob is weighted, not as much as a Telefunken Studio 1, but enough to make it turn more smoothly than the average boombox. And there is a cool LED on the tuner needle FM reception is very good, but shortwave is poor.
In total, it weighs 23 lbs (10.4 kg) and reeks of high quality. It sounds very good...... not nearly as good as a Studio 1 or Universum HiFi 1000, but still good. The speakers are very light, so I didn't expect much, but their internal dimensions allow them to amplify the bass. The sides and back are made of wood, a nice touch. And inside is a wooden stick that goes between the woofer magnet and the back wall --- I believe its purpose is to transmit "resonance" to the back wall and add to the fullness of the sound.
Weakness: the input jacks are Phono only (3.5mV / 47kohms) So I will need to purchase an adaptor/booster in order to use an iPod.
