I just bought this off of ebay. It says the tapes play with a hum and fast. Any ideas? Does anyone have a red slider knob for the eq or a battery cover? It is in the mail as we speak. Is this something that I can fix myself?

If you havn't been inside a boombox before this might be a bit overwhelming for you. Search around for threads here on the discolite and you should be able to find some answers and see who else owns that box.

ok. Thank you. My previous life I was a HVAC technician fixing AC and heating units. I do own a ac/dc volt meter. I am good with the meter but not good with transistors and "radio" electronics.

i can help out with a few of your discolite needs,,,

1. go to your local ace hardware --they have orange/red THREAD PROTECTORS-
that just happen to be the right size and right look to replace your missing slider cover

2. go to your local hobby store to get a small sheet of 1/16" or 3/32" aircraft ply--
that makes a very strong battery cover

when you go to ace hardware--you will see --they are only about 15 cents each-
they will replace your missing equalizer switch cover

i have seen the video and some of the LEDs just stay on :-/ I have no idea if that is a bad sign or hard to fix, i am crossing my fingers for you.

Tape issue could be resolved with some head cleaning and a speed adjustment on the motor OR some switch is simply set up "speed dubbing" and the guy has no idea about the unit

I think the tuner knob was not original either, take one of a Crown 850 and spry it gold, they look pretty alike in my opinion.
Congrats on that awesome thing..I also want one but my car keeps on eating too much money

He has only 6 "disco"- lights on him though :'-(
He is worth it :-D

most of the discolight hum is the record bar which get real dirty i have cleaned a few and that took care of the problem and i belive it was because of non usage of deck2 which is the recording deck if there was a problem with the door not opening the deck was not used ,,, so after not being used issues started to rise,, and belive me that the decks were in fact intact with only a need of belts and maybe a little adjustment and sometimes not even that but because of a bad door thats were most of the problems were at so deoxit the record bar real good give it a good wash and for the leds if one burns out some dont work,, if it stays on there might be a short... :-)
