At last years Midwest Swing, on the way to the Illini, Bobby (Fatdog) graced me with a Pioneer SK-550...a badly beaten SK-550. Nonetheless, I am very grateful to the 'Doggy for hooking me up with it. I've always admired these. However, it needs lot's of work, won't fire and parts would be needed....

Fast forward to 2015 and up to the deck steps Ken (Kenpat) makes it known he has one with issues for parting out. Well I make a lame offer and he accepts! Thankfully I didn't need knobs as Bobby's had them. So he send me the leavins that hadn't been picked through and now I can start.

First things first. Big ups to Ken because the body of the SK-550 he sent me is in much better shape than what I had. It fires up but has issues as well. Now for some preview as work starts. I hope I can have it up and running before the weekend is out.

The two to be one...

Charlotte and her kids have been evicted. (The electronics weren't the only dead in the Pioneer. )

Wonder why that self destructed? :hmmm:

Removing cassette...Molex (Yay! )...and soldered (Doh! :nugget: ) connections...

Thanks Ira! But It's late and this is where mistakes are made. This is where I'm leaving it for the night. I'll deal with the soldered ribbons after a good nights sleep.

(BTW...If a certain member reads this thread, your project hasn't been forgotten about. It is as frustrating as mine was. Just needed a change of scenery on something easier to reset. ;-) )

Nice project - I've always really enjoyed 2 or 3 into 1 projects. It's great fun when you've got two or three of everything! Despite the minor solder work, that looks a well laid out box so hopefully everything runs smoothly for you.
Hopefully you don't have multiples of the same faulty parts.

Good luck,

James..... :-)

I've never really taken much notice of those 550's before, Pioneer certainly marched to the beat of their own drum.

Good luck with the 2 into 1, hope it all goes well

Good job getting one together. I'll never regret owning one. Had been in my collection almost the longest!

as much as I love this model when its all working and assembled, I hated the layout as the way the boards are mounted makes it so very difficult to take "live" voltage measurements, typically from the back (solder) side.
