so after pushing the button too aggressively the button had broken off the shaft inside :dunce: :dunce: i was hoping i didnt have to find a salvage unit on the web and rip the button shaft out of it, especially when the unit is 24+ years old so, so a bit of DIY was undertaken ;-)

1_2.jpg

Trusty old mitre stick with activator
2.jpg

button quickly stuck back into place.....
3.jpg

a coat hanger......

so i cut out 4 little tabs with my cable snips.....
5.jpg

and glued them around the join for strength

To tidy it up a little......

and sorted.... its probably now a 1000 times stronger than it ever was

Awesome!! I bet the extra rigidity really helps on that one. I wonder why they made such a tiny contact point for the freakin' power button? :-/

:hmmm: probably mass produced..... but the rest of it is built incredibly well it would of set you back eq of £1000 or more in 1987!!

but it twas just a flimsy ball and socket type arrangement, not surprised that it broke off

Going back and looking at the switch arm, you might want to reinforce the other end too - just to be safe.

the other end is a different fittment and its not so flimsy.

this was on my amp, so i could reinforce the same part on the matching cd deck, cassette and tuner. :hmmm: I got plenty of coat hanger left!!

stuck around the tuner button to strenthen it

the cd shaft i glued to make it rigid, as its not as flimsy anyway... the cassette i cut a square out and stuck it onto the sides

tuner shaft with diy shrink wrap.... if you like :-/

That's a really nice stack, Sean. :afro:

thanks, man... i cant begin to say how incredible it sounds!! 24 years old but it beats the S**t out of most modern systems, its just shy of 500 watt i think

I remember buying a Technics GT 70L tuner - they're nice units

it can be a pain tuning it in with the dial, rather than it having buttons, but its got a very good signal strength to it

it's ALL about that weighted dial!

I'd love to get one of these

the dial's not actually wieghted, it freely spins and can be difficult to get it precise
