Recently I had the immense pleasure of adding the Silver 8800 radio to my collection, which was a childhood friends, from which I still have cassettes that were recorded on it in the early 80s. This is my most sentimentally valued radio in my collection and I still can't get over having it.
Then this week a client came in on a day I don't usually see him and he produced ANOTHER Silver SR8800!! I couldn't believe it! Said he'd had it for a while and knew I'd give it a better home so he gave it to me and wouldn't accept any cash. I couldn't thank him enough and he really appreciated my rapturous joy over such a beautiful specimen.
The cosmetic differences between the two versions of the same model are pretty apparent, and the internals are all clip wired together in the newer one, with the apparently original version being hard soldered entirely inside. This new one is in virtually mint condition, hardly a mark anywhere and looks like it has seen minimal use. A rebelt this weekend should sort her all out.
This is a genuinely beautiful radio, monstrous size and features and the best LED meters I've seen outside of a Realistic SCR8 with 20 segments for each channel on the new model (unsure on the older model til she's repaired). I apologise for the photo quality... still working on getting a new camera, but I'm sure you can appreciate the size comparison to the GF-777 (which is now all dressed up thanks to Bobby).
I'll definitely take lots more photos of all the details when I get a new camera, but I couldn't wait to share this awesome double with my boombox brothers.
Rock On.
