hello all,
this is my first post here at boomboxery - looks to be a verry nice site btw.
any how
while at the swap shop I ran across this :

PICT0051-4.jpg

and when I got it home to test it out
it plays am / fm fine but the speaker sounds realley high pitched only. the midrange / bass is virtualy in audable even when cranking up the volume all the way. also it has a god awful crackle when changing the volume
so I was hoping to clean all the contacts to see if this helps any - and to possibly check out the speaker to see if it can be fixed with a re foam kit or just needs replacing...

its got a sweet shouldre strap - and im now also on the hunt for a 8 track tape to test out the function of that.

so what do yall think ? should I get out the tools and tinker with it - or just leave it alone as a show piece ?
I think im most intrested to see what the heck the speaker looks like behind the grille... haha

Welcome aboard, Brian. I would definitely get out the tools and open it up. Aside from the good cleaning it probably needs, you can get a better idea of the condition of the speaker. Also, investing in some DeOxit wouldn't hurt.

Another Brian... Welcome.

Nice, I wouldn't walk past it.

Reminds me of the Cougar 7 with that speaker arrangement.

Deoxit for the volume pot, that will fix the scratchiness, as for the speaker I dunno. *shrugs*.
You may find that the Deoxit will fix that too.

Edit: Fatdog is all over it! You gotta be quick.

A very good friend of mine has the same radio! Below is a pic. I would say use the chemical De Oxit on all the volume pots and I bet it will come back to life really quick. My buddies radio works and sounds great, even though his is very dirty! He uses / keeps it for emergency weather updates. He has one 8 track tape, KISS! We have listened to it a few times while drinking beer! Nice little radio!

Welcome to The Worldwide Getto Massive!

Yep, this is a nice box to start with. I believe these are called the 'Loudmouth'.

A nice box to start with. :-)

o snap.
got this case split apart tonight to see what all tools ill need to fully take the casing off the electronics for full cleaning

looks like some of the smaller screwdrivers is all ill need
but
o the horror of the battery goo that has spilled its way inside of this thing.
the battery slots were bad
but inside the plastic casing is even worse hopefully some simple green and a scrubby will take care of it.
I will post up pictures tomorrow during its cleaning process

o and was pleasntly suprized to see a normal looking speaker in there - so if its dry rotted all out it should be eazy to replace with something similar from parts express

where do I find the product to clean the contacts all with ? do they sell it at any auto parts stores / or walmart type places / or hardware store ?
