Well, as usual, I found myself in Tennesee, this time at the end of November. Resident webmaster, sleuth, family man, graphic artist, and avid boombox collector, Bobby, invited me up to "cause some destruction". Needless to say, being an ex military guy, I,like R. Lee Ermey, love blowin' stuff up for the heck of it. I had a great time and would do it again in a heartbeat if I can.
Afterwards, we went to Bobby's parents house as he is trying to stay out of trouble with the wife due to the ever expanding collection. (We need to chip in for a room expansion for him. Every 'Dog needs his house. )
I had brought along a few toys of course, my Sony FH-5, Telefunken Studio 1, Sharp WF-939z, Sharp GX-300H, and Sanyo C9. Bobby got his from resident shill Ira. (It looked like it just came out of a Marlboro plant in N.C. ) I was looking forward to hearing the C9 again in original configuration as I changed the speakers in mine because the originals run out of gas too quick for my taste. Here are some photos of them together. Mine has the reel cassette and obvious mod speakers.
After comparing the two, Bobby realized what I had been talking about as far as the original speakers versus the capabilities of the box. I'll let him elaborate further.
Bobby also had a listen to my other toys. Although he enjoyed them all, including of note the 939z and the Studio 1...the one that jumped out at him was...drumroll please...
THE SHARP GX-300H!!! Now fully functional!!! See ya in Florida boys!!! See pics below!
Now the visit did have some bumps...See, we need to help Bobby as right now his Clairetone 7980, GF-777 and others are living like this...
I offered to take them to 'Bama with me and let my house serve as a "group home" of sorts for his collection. I even tried to smuggle the Sansui FX-500R!!
Alas, Bobby said he would do his best, and I trust him to. Though I'm still worried about the Sansui...
I'm looking forward to Bobby coming down here to play and go hunting as our thrifts seem to burst this time of year with tasty bits to collect.
Thanks Fatdizzle!!! As usual, I have a blast when I'm up there!
