Hey everyone.
I'm planning on shipping a boomer to a German member here on the forum and I'm running into a bit of a snag. The maximum allowable package size to Germany from the U.S. is 108 total inches of circumference. The boomer I'm shipping is 106 without any packing or even a shipping carton. So USPS out I guess. Fed ex wants almost $400.00 and I'm sure UPS is right up there too. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

skippy i sent a box to the uk in a custom made wooden crate , it only has to be a bit bigger than the radio , and only needs minimal packing inside , if its a 3 piece its easier to pack with the speakers on it instead of taking them off and packing them separately . if the crate is strong you really only need to have just enough space to put the radio and some thin padding because it wont move around inside.

my m90 from puerto rico came wrapped in thick cardboard with no bubble wrap and it somehow made it.

Skip...lemme know what it is you're shipping via PM and I'll see what I can tell ya. Shipped all kinds of stuff overseas before with no grief so there is a way I'm sure. :-)

Yeah thanks guys but apparently the USPS size limits to shipments to Germany. I've never had any problems shipping to other country's so I'm looking for help on Germany shipping only

Try a conversation about it with Styleking...

I sent a 5350 from here to Hannover (for Zippy) with a custom made box, with very minimal bubblewrap, but "very strong high density HP Enclosure Blade Server" foam, and the radio arrives safe in Zippy hands...

Maybe because DHL do the service in Germany... ...who knows...

Cheers.

I shipped a C-100 to Germany. I think there were only about 3 inches to spare around each side. Unfortunately USPS is really the only affordable way.

Yes I'm shipping a Big Ben and it's pretty big but it's thick. The total circumference is 106 inches and your only allowed 108 inches now.

Yes unfortunately DHL doesn't ship in the U.S. anymore or I would look into them.

I've shipped larger to Germany before using USPS. I would go through PayPal if I were you. Maybe the size limits are different.

When I got my Telefunkens 1m and HP800 it was through DHL and they arrived intact. On the DHL website you can find a location that is affiliated with the shipping company for the U.S.

Then again USPS may be one of them that's affiliated with DHL.

Good luck Skippy I hope you get this sorted out.

When someone from Germany ships to the US, DHL hands it off to USPS. But I don't think you can use DHL to ship it the other way.

DHL has a "Find a DHL Service Point Location" you choose United States and then you'll get a list of authorized shippers from within the U.S. city or town you live.

Yeah, they're all UPS Stores. No thank you. Way more expensive than USPS for overseas stuff.

And I just ran a quote on DHL's site. They want almost $300 to ship a generic midsize boombox. No thank you. Again, USPS is the only reasonably-priced choice. I can do it for about $90 with them. $120 if express.

You can do it. By itself, the Big Ben is 79" length + girth. You have 29" to work with. The challenge is finding a ready made box that is the "exact" size to provide cushion on each side. Unfortunately more than likely, one side will have more room than necessary and the other sides too little space for proper cushioning. The solution therefore is to make your own custom carton that will have the right amount of space/side for this particular BOOMBOX. I do it all the time and it's a pita and very time consuming, but definitely doable.

GLS Europe could also be an option, did you call FedEX,DPD, Parcelforce or TNT.

Otherwise I think you can ship it as a "company".
Maybe you know one that has his or her own and ship from there to the buyers working address or similar....

Yep, glad I never had to deal with that.
