I would of guessed a lot earlier than 1984 - maybe 1980?

As for the power, I'm sure someone with 'the knowledge' on here stated that they are both the same amp chip.... could be wrong though..

My old Sharp GF-9494X was made in 1979. The 9494X is the 22W version.

I always thought the 9494 had a faily modern look, say compared to a 9090 and a 9191, But hey it was a guess and i had to be quick

According to my sources, GF-9494 is from 1980. The 22W version started selling in 1981 - it was an update to 1980's version
