:-D :-D I just got lucky to get a VZ3500 today. The transparent cover had 3 nasty scratches and other than that cosmetically it is in fantastic shape. the cassette door and control button area is in fantastic shape (if not I would have never bought it). It was a rainy day in the "windy city" and had to travel quite a bit far to get it, plus my wife is at work. I cannot ask for a better time when she is away at work to bring my treasure peacefully.   Don't have to hide in the garage and bring it in when she is in deep sleep.

The good thing is that record player works fantastic on both sides and all functions work well.

The bad thing is the cassette door won't open I never tried any hopeless maneuvers to open it. I know there is some catch.
The record indicator LED stays on no matter what you do.
Cassette axle turns say 15 degrees and stops on both FF and RW. It won't move in play mode.

Radio sound is so weak on both channels even with antenna connection. It receives signal and LEDs lights up strong but low volume at the max.

I want to hug this baby for the LP play function. But I am a bit greedy to get the radio and tape function also work.

I will post pictures tomorrow!

I really appreciate any help to get a service manual for this unit and also thoughts, suggestions and humble advice on correcting the radio tape issues.

It is such a wonderful view when this plays records....trust me... there is nothing like it!

If you guys happen to find one just grab it. :agree:

Cheers!

Royce most likely needs new belts and good cleaning of deck. Can you tell if the heads are in up/play position. If so this is because deck is automatic and needs to be manually turned to get deck back to stop mode. This explains why door won't open. Can't wait for pics. Good luck :-)

Hi Bill,

I also thought that the belts could be the culprit. In many cases when you turn the flywheel, it corrects the issue with the locking up problem. This will be the first time I am going to open a VZ3500 (watch out!! :w00t: ) and don't want to kill the other half that is working fantastic.

As always you are the first to offer help to everyone on this site. Keep up the good work!

:-D I am getting so impatient to open it up and see the inside.

I want to fix the radio and cassette problem but I cannot find a service manual for it.

I looked up everywhere for it and only stumbled on the VZ3000 model. :sadno: :sadno:

Let me know if any of our members got one.

PM me if you want to sell one.

Thanks

I got the Service Manual and took it all apart this evening. :-D

It was a nightmare to open up the stuck cassette door with cassette inside in the record mode. :-O :annoyed: Without opening the door there was no way to open up the unit.

The whole turntable assembly mainly rests on two helical suspension springs at the bottom and two screws with rubber bushes on the top. There are 3 connectors to the main circuit board. Unlocking of these connectors were a little tricky. The side lock on the female plug has to flip open almost 2 mm to unlock the male connectors. It looks pretty easy to change the main belt for the record player.

Cassette part also looks easy to access for belt replacement., but need to be very careful not to break the tip of the sliding record switch with the downward extending lever.

Now I am ready for a compressed air assisted polyester bristle brush clean up then clean all the contacts and pots with deoxit. i will post pics later.

Belt replacement will follow when I know the size of the belts on these. The cassette motor got a double pulley, one to run the main flat belt and another one to run a square belt. I was a bit nervous to open and remove the turntable assembly. I was extra cautious not to tamper with the stylus arm and the drive parts.

I am happy to be in the club of having 2 of these. 1 of which is a beater for $78 shipped. I use the aux and radio on it. The turner puts out fantastic stereo sound. And with the advice from BL48. I have some kick butt speakers as well. The other one I grabbed from a forum member for my girlfriends closet room as most of you are aware of. It looks and sounds really good, with original speakers :-D
