Sharp VZ-2500 cant get it to record

hi I have a sharp vz2500 after rebelting the tape deck every thing worked fine with rewinding,fast forward and play, but when I press record nothing happens, there is a pice of metal with a spring in the middle that I retached,it doesn't seem to pull the the record switch enough,when I pull the record switch manually the record light comes on,im sure I put everything back after rebelting the tape deck, has anyone else had this problem, if so how to solve this
