Hi there,

I have finally been united with my Sharp VZ 2000 and I am in the process of getting it fully up and running. It is in good cosmetic condition and the unit powers up and the radio works fine but there are a couple of issues.

1. The right channel (speaker) has no sound coming out although when I lightly press on aux or tape switches sound starts coming out of the right speaker.
I am just pulling the unit apart and have some electrical contact cleaner which I'm hoping will help. Any other ideas?

2. The turntable belt has turned gooey so I will need to order one of these and replace it
Is it best to order one of these from ebay? Has anyone got clear instructions on the easiest way to replace the belt?

3. It is missing a few sliders.
I have just contacted bredgeo who I hear makes these sliders?

4. The Aux is a DIN Pin
Does anyone know where I can find an adaptor to a 3.5mm jack or RCA plug?

I really appreciate any help I can get so I can get this beast to full working order.

Thanks in advance
Jono

It needs a good switch cleanup with Deoxit or any good contact cleaner. After opening up the box carefully yoyu need to spray the contact cleaner from the top end of each switch and press it more than say 30- 40 times. Deoxit will get in between the coil springs and teh plastic switch to the inner contacts and clean it.

First step is to clean the pulley and the path of the belt with isopropanol.

There are several ways to change the belt. Let the turntable assembly lay on top of a folded towel or foam to avoid scratches. Remove the wires from the plastic clamps so that there is enough room to raise the platter from the rear side. There are 4 screws that hold the whole platter assembly. I would remove all 4 and raise the platter and slip a soft card board over the hole to rest the platter drum. Take care the platter drum wont get scratched on the metal hole edges. Now you can slip the belt from below and get it over the reel. I used pieces of scotch tape to hold the belt in position when I reach for the other side of the reel to slip the belt over. Once the belt is over the reel, pull it and slip it over the motor pulley. Remove all the scotch tapes that was holding the belt over the reel.

Take good care not to break the tone arm movement small motor switch next to the gear wheel assembly. It is very easy to break the black contact switch. Also be careful no to pull those wires that are connected to the PC board.

Another way is to remove the PC board from the top by removing one screw. The other side of the PC board is secured at two V shaped cuts on the chassis. Then you need to unplug the motor wires, and then remove the 4 screws to take out the platter assembly along with the motor. This is a little more difficult step and one needs to be so careful.
