Hey all,
Finished this a while ago.. Only had a chance today to put the pics up online and share.
This was the first boombox i attempted to strip down and restore. It was quite a learning experience, one that i enjoyed!
Thank you to this awesome website and guys/girls to which had been an incredible source of information and inspiration.
Please feel free to comment and question.
Matt

The before shot, Wish i took more before shots, i was way too eager to start tearing it apart.

You had to have gone to the Gluecifer School of Boombox Photography. Those photos are on par with the Great One himself.

That is a fantastic restoration!! Did you have to repaint the red woofers?

Thank everyone for your comments!
FD, didn't paint the speakers at all.. Gave it a good clean with a paint brush and compressed air, polished the center dome with autosol using a cue tip.

She looks better than new.

Well done,

James.....
Thanks mate. I saw on here somewhere someone use Toyota silver on theirs.. I dare say it's almost perfect match... Tiny bit more heavy on the metallic but I think it looks spot on. Credit to that member :)

Again super job. How did you paint the grilles? Please tell!
Pretty easy. Removed them first, wire brush the rust off completely, then I rinse and cleaned them..then a metal rust inhibiting primer, then 2/3 coats of color (I used a duplicolor... I'll look up the color) make sure you do both sides and spay in all directions... Then 2 coats of clear on the front in all directions.
Make sure you keep the coats very very light to avoid narrowing the mesh holes..

What a beautiful colour scheme, thanks for sharing!!! I am in the never-ending process of resurrecting "El Diablo" from the dump, was thinking about painting grilles in Red, but now see that red cones behind matte-black grilles would look more "Diabolical" :-) have to check first if airbrushing red ink over black paper cones is doable: painting mid and tweeter with red enamel or lacquer sounds like a bad idea!!
Your photography skills are diabolical!.. oops, I should watch the language and maybe spend less time with El Diablo in my hands... In short, Awesome!!!!!!

I have a couple boxes that need this. I've ignored it for years, but now its time to fix them grills!

I did....... !!!!!!!!!

Sharp with Black Cones is equally amazing, what (how?) you did to those beaten knobs is pure magic! And Pioneer SK-757 "...stolen from jane..." with its dreamy-colored grilles is just... WOW!!!

:hooray:
