This is obviously a common situation and there are many posts regarding.
But I became confused with reading it all.
So, this is my sitch and it's not the first VZ with this issue for me.
On all functions of the box, which is operating properly, there is very minimal sound. If I plug headphones into it and turn it up to full volume I can hear only a faint sound, with turntable, radio, tape, line in.
Is it to do with the amp chips? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If it is something like the chips I will buy a bunch of them for future use. Otherwise... I don't know!
Thanks
Warren

the first thing i would do is clean the internal /external speaker switch on the back of the vz.

next clean the function switches and band selector switches.

also try pressing play and record several times in a row.

and try plugging and unplugging headphones in the headphone jack several times and check to see if the plug is dirty .

I once had the issue that one channel cut out because of a bad balance slider :hmmm:
Maybe check that

And also be sure to clean the internal rec bar
