I'm restoring a VZ-2000 and have had it open a few times.

The radio works fine on normal FM, but it seems the FM-St section is very quiet, and the red stereo light does not illuminate when channel searching. It did work when I originally got the box.

I tried using some contact cleaner in the area of the tuner/aerial. Is there any other area I should look at?

Cheers

Typical . Trimpotentiometer of the stereo decoder IC must have contact problems. One of my VZ had the same problem

Hi,

Is the Trimpa waa? near the FM antenna area - I googled and assume its a capacitor - Is it possibly a bad solder or ? Would be difficult to get to that area of the box?

Clean your function switches.

i agree this is the number 1 problem with vz 2000 reception and static issues . the switches get stuck between functions and you have to push them a certain way just to get any results. in some cases the tuner board is bad , i had 2 spare tuner boards and sold both like instantly.
