I found a beat up Sharp QT-250 at a thrift store that was begging to be cleaned up. I opened it up and cleaned out the blanket of dust that coated every nook and cranny.

The tape deck works great. Only issue is when a tape is playing the left speaker is making a soft buzzing sound while the right sounds great.

When the radio is turned on, they both work with no issues. There is no speaker balance adjuster on this box. Any ideas on the problem? Easy fix? Thanks for any and all help.

Tried the usual things of contact cleaning the record bar, external speaker connectors, headphone socket, function switch etc?

I'm not sure what the record bar looks like on this model? It's underneath the cassette deck correct?
The record bar is connected to the deck by a lever that usually leads to a PC board , on the PC board where the lever from the deck leads is where the record bar is .

I located the record bar, removed the deck and cleaned the bar. Placed the deck back in place and both speakers worked. However, a new problem has arose. When I try to play the play button pops up after half a second. Same goes for the fast forward and reverse. All the gears look okay and the belt functions well. When I hold down the play it begins to rip the cassette into spaghetti. Any thoughts on the problem? Thanks

In your op you said the deck worked well, in the above post you now say it doesn't work well with the only thing happening between these two working states was your taking the box box apart and reassembling it so..................the first thing I would do is open the box, then have a look-see and, if all looks good, reassemble the box very carefully to ensure any part that needs to interact with, connect with, locate alongside correctly or otherwise function correctly does just that. It sounds far more complicated that it is but the box is simple.

I have one of the boxes (plus some donor parts) so, if you can't solve the problem or identify a problem which needs comparison, then I can open up mine and take some pics/have a look-see/whatever if this helps.

Thanks for your help. One of those if it's not one problem its another. I will be working on it again this evening and see if I can carefully put it back together with any changes.

Yes, at the start the tape worked great and it was the left speaker. Now its the tape controls popping up when pressed down and no longer the speaker. Ughh...

Just put the box carefully back together and everything seems to be working fine. I think cleaning record bar did it for the speaker and another good cleaning seemed to fix the cassette lock up.

I appreciate all your help! Feels good to save this box from the dump.
