Hi Boomboxery :)

Pardon for not introducing myself in the board first :p too lazy cuz my connection is being laggy

but I guess this is the first published attempt of modding/upgrading the monstrous SHARP GX-M10. If you haven't heard of it, check it out on the review&comparison started by TMR https://boomboxery.com/forum/index.php/topic/18277-the-great-bassoff-the-definitive-bass-boombox-review/?hl=%2Bsharp+%2Bm10
The GX is a GREAT bass machine, through two active bass drivers, its performance can only be matched by the good old Kaboom. However im the quality of other frequencies (mid&high) on the GX is quite uninspiring. This is the what we get when the box handles mid&highs only by one driver.
So im coming up with similar mod to previous Kabooms, such as Superduper's "Racoon Kaboom" on other forum (google them they're awesome mod btw) which adds a pair of tweeters to enhance high frequencies (or usually termed retrofitting)

The result was satisfying (that would include modders' placebo), but the highs are actually THERE. My only complaint would be the tweeters I bought were cheap models :)
Here are the steps I'll be explaining by photos :
First : Open all the screws on the back&sides of the GX, all of them. By any chance your GX is taped together by double-sided tapes, its okay to slowly force them to open (Careful!! do it very gently, the cables inside the GX is great pain to deal with)
These are 4 items you need to open first before opening the body (iPod not included)

Another pic:

Be careful with this flex connection and the cable that connects to USB interface on the front

These are my tweeter bought from a local audio shop. It already includes a crossover inside the construction (a simple capacitor wired in series, or usually called 1st order highpass crossover) so don't ask me numbers :p

Simply wired in parallel to the front drivers ( the black thingie blocking the front driver )
This is my method of mounting the tweeter, you can place them inside or outside.

Done! :)
putting them back

Any comments and/or suggestions would be very nice

Best regards

Welcome aboard and whale of a first post! Great info for those who have one of these and look to make an unobtrusive mod. :-)

great, I want to put tweeters in one of my 1986 jvc, because in all of them, there is only a plate of metal, instead of speakers, does it really works??? :hmmm:

This box, along with the black GX-BT9, is the best value boombox available today. Only $120 and it's got as much bass as the Kaboom, with slightly better mids/highs.

Did someone here say that? I kinda doubt it, because both of them are listed as having the same power output, and the same speaker sizes. The only difference seems to be that the M10 weighs more because it has CD player and iPod dock.

Also the M10 supposedly had an overly restrictive Aux input, and the BT9 fixed it. Supposedly.

I think I read some reviews on Amazon a while ago when I was thinking of getting it about testing between the 2. Of course reviews aren't what stopped me but cost at time was about $200.

If they had made a green M10 I would have bought it, but all they ever had is that ugly orange

again, sorry to revive an old posts.. did you ever made this thing sound great on aux as it sounds on cd/usb/ipod? The aux is limited and sounds like horseraddish. The best result I've got was using a FiiO x2 but the bass was at 25% percent of what it sounds like on the IPOD. I have gathered 2 years of frustration with this one..

I got rid of my GX-BT9, as the woofers made rustling/rattling noises with some music. Also it could only produce "warm" bass, not tight bass. Not the right machine for oldskool hiphop.

I apologize for reviving an old post, but since I have bought the sharp there have been 2 bloody years of frustration.. has anyone here made the AUX input sound as good as CD/USB/IPOD quality? As in, the people down at Sharp factory DELIBERATELY limited the power for the Sharp Boombox. Why? I have tried BT adapters to 30 pin, 30 pin cables to jack, and all sorts of things... anyone got an idea whether is there a solution for this? I hate being bound to an ipod that I continously need to sync or reach to. Or should I try adding an aux cable inside the boombox, as in, solder to the cd player?
