When my 777 came back from the repair shop it had an issue with a weak rewind and was a bit noisy. Pulled out the mech and ran it outside the enclosure without issues. However now when it is reassembled the Rew and FF are almost stuck and the capstans seem to be rubbing on the casing.
For the life of me I've tried to get it back correctly but does anyone have any tips on where it is getting out of whack going back It went back together ok a few months ago after an overhaul.
Any tips?

PS. the Repair shop takes forever and looks after me on price, so I won't be taking it back.

Please follow through the repair guide by fatdog (owner of boomboxery) and see what is wrong. It seems like the belts are not put the correct way or the flywheel cover is not tightened with the mounting screws.

Also if you bend the backing plate nothing will line up right and it will scrape it takes some doing the line these back up you can tell when it's sitting right by looking at the mounting points where the screws that mount the tape deck are plus you have to keep everything lined up with the belts and everything on two decks at the same time.

The gf 777 and the c-100 are the most finicky boomboxes when it comes to aligning things up straight.

I've replaced belts on two GF777 without any issue. Just go through the attachment several times, take pics and have lots of patience. You will be able to get it fixed. Good Luck!

I have a 777 deck here, got it out just now..the pics show the correct belt routing , where my fingers are are where the belts connect to the motors. Attaching to the nylon pins then Clos ng the cover , I use a modified governor arm from a Tecumseh small engine to get into place.IMG_20220814_221704662.jpgIMG_20220814_221707038_HDR.jpgIMG_20220814_221716936_HDR.jpgIMG_20220814_221719367_HDR.jpgIMG_20220814_222256378_HDR.jpgIMG_20220814_222301010_HDR.jpg
