Hello guys. I am looking to buy a cylindrical idler for my Sharp GF9696. I have a Sharp GF 9090HB restoration upcoming next. So I'll need two of these that's for sure. I've bought an idler out of Ebay from a German seller, however, after depressing the play button, 5 seconds later the idler will slip inside the capstan in result of having no takeup reel. I will appreciate any help on sourcing a good quality idler rubber.

Here you go....

I used RC Car's fuel line tube. It worked well.
You can get them from nearby hobby shops.
It is all explained well in the link below:

@BoomboxLover48 Many thanks sir. I cannot reply there as the topic is locked, but, can I use a 2.5mm x 5mm rc fuel line?
Yes, you can use one with slightly less than (1.4 cm)14.0 mm length. Make use it grips well on the steel shaft.

We need approximately 14.0 mm tube length for this need. The bearing close to the flywheel is lubricated first before the capstan steel shaft is cleaned well and tube is slipped on it. Make sure the lubricant used not to get in between the tube and capstan.

I used high temp white silicon grease for the bearings.

The final adjustments can be easily done by pulling the flywheel slightly back to move the tube to the front end for better contact with the drive wheel.

Good luck!

How do you pull the golden bearing from the back side of the mechanism? For the lubrication I will use Molykote EL30.

It is friction fit in that hole.
Use a firm wooden or plastic rod of about 4.0 mm in diameter and push the brass self-lubricating flange bearing out from the other side. It will slip out easily.

You mean Molykote EM30 right? There is no EL30.
You can use any light grease for lubrication.

Yes EM30. My bad. Here is the RC fuel line tube. I bought a whole meter from a local RC store. Gonna patent it up in a few hours.

Okay I did it. I finally have solid playback and plenty of torque on the take up reel. I've lubricated the auto stop mechanism as well. Now, I have a strange issue. Once I engage the fast forward or rewind, the reels gets stuck and won't move. I have no fast forward and rewind. (Possibly because I tried to fix the assembly with the gears and messed it up). I have to source another assembly of a sharp gf mechanism that operates the fast forward and rewind). Also the pinch roller is incorrect size (I already have a replacement one). So now, to fix the fast forward and rewind, and the cassette mechanism will be ready to roll.
