Hi!

I am in the process of changing out the belts of this beautiful gf-999, and though I'm terrified, I'm following the excellent teardown guide I found on here and so far so good. I'm almost to the belts, but I also have been cleaning as I go, and that's where I could use your trained eyes.

Overall, the box is in immaculate condition. I've taken some photos of some of the electronics and the plan is to deoxit the corrosion I find.

Here are the things I could use opinions on:
1) For the pots and other elements, I'll need help identifying if some of this residue I'm seeing is intentional (as in grease) or just general goo that should be cleaned off.
2) I've noticed that the rightmost speaker is not playing audio and someone recommended cleaning the volume pots; what's involved in that? I'd imagine these need to be disassembled to a greater degree but I'm not sure how to go about that without breaking something heh.

Thanks for any thoughts or insight you have!

No replies so far, so I'm going to try to clean off the surface goo and deoxit to lube it back. I'll report here on how that goes! Hopefully that'll fully restore this guy to active duty!

a lot of the times the pots are just worn on these and that's what leads to the lack of sound or intermittent sound coming from one or both channels I've seen this problem more than once and it's not easy to find the parts it almost requires rebuilding every pot that has a problem.

cleaning the hell out of these switches and pots is a pain in the ass but it's totally worth it to eliminate that as a source of the problem.

these also have closed switches meaning that no matter how much you spray inside of them the pieces are so far deep inside the switch the cleaner won't reach it unless you submerge the switch in the cleaner.

The pots need to be removed from the the PCB and then can be disassembled by bending the tabs, clean with alcohol and use a touch of silicone grease and reassemble

I think I saw a post about this process somewhere but can't find it anymore. Know of any guides to this process? If I've already got everything open (with my existential dread of putting it back together successfully), I might as well take a look at the pots too.

Finally got to finishing up my attempt with this one, and it was a success! All the way down to the belts, a few pit stops on some pots and back together again (and crucially, working perfectly!).

Thanks for your insight and help during the process!

Here are some pics from the journey-
