And I've hardly got around to sorting out the Hitachi TRK8130 I picked up, but I've just bought a Sharp GF9191 off ebay at a decent price!
Expecting delivery mid-week, apparently the radio works but STRANGELY the tape doesnt!
It'll be nostalgic opening one of them up for the first time since about summer 1980!

Pictures and progress report as soon as I get it.

Oh, also bought a bluetooth receiver unit. Planning to integrate it to the line-in circuitry so I can stream from my phone to it. If all goes well. Hopefully I wont have to do much in the way of customisation of the case to accomodate it.

Nice find! The GF-9191 is an easy model to work on. As an experienced Sharp guru, you'll have that deck up and running in no time.

As the 9191 doesn't have a standard line in, are you going to use the phono in via an attenuator or tap into the tape circuitry?

I thought I'd pick up the back of the phono sockets so offering a choice of radio/tape/bluetooth.

And yes: acute boomboxia! Already the misses is wondering how many I plan to buy! XD

Well the GF-9191 arrived today! Very well packed but very dirty.
Cassette door sticks for some reason and left antenna missing, but should be easy to repair.

Going to do some before and after pictures, and remove everything from the case so I can give it a bath. Its got paint splashes on the front of the case and lots of crud in the corners.

Progress report:
Took the guts out. Belt had stuck to the flywheel. Motor works and heads pick up noise so just need a belt and two antennas.
Potentiometers need a spray to clean them as they crackle a bit.

Cleaned the case inside and out with steamer... didn't melt anything or remove legend/chrome. Put stuff back inside and it still works :D

Still needs some detailing but looking better.

Excellent stuff! Have you checked for the usual melted tyre?
Do you mean the pinch roller? Or the capstan sleeve? Not throughly checked it out yet. Found a potential psu/power amp problem to work on first.

Just a little update. I've added a tiny Bluetooth receiver board and power supply and wired it to the phono input.

Works quite well but the box seems to have a power supply issue: the sound drops out for a few seconds then recovers.

Anyway I'm pleased with the Bluetooth receiver but need to add some filtering as it breaks through.

Attached pics of the psu, receiver, and a video of it working.

I really do like the looks of these. I'd love to hear one some day. I go back and forth between which I like better, silver or black.

I used to like thank hands down, but the silver I think has grown on me and may have edged the black.

You should give it a try!
I need to tweak it a bit, noise from the Bluetooth receiver or power regulator is breaking through to the audio circuit plus I realise I've picked up the power from before the power switch... doh! But so easy and all changes reversable.

Ebay links to bits used:

I used a similar type of power boost board regulator with a headphone amp board running from a usb power pack like you would carry to charge your phone it sounds fine like this but if i use the usb port from my sony laptop i get a lot of noise and hum . I did get over 12 hours use using my bluetooth receiver powered by one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Duracell-3-Hr-Mobile-Phone-MP3-Portable-USB-Charger-Power-Bank-Battery-1150-/262357701287?hash=item3d15bcd2a7:g:1~YAAOSwGYVW-YKr The bluteooth receiver i used is here though i find the range to only be about 7 to 8 meters http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bluetooth-4-0-Stereo-Receiver-Board-Wireless-Audio-Sound-Module-For-Car-Phone-PC-/311482629049?hash=item4885cfbbb9:g:KSUAAOSw37tV-mTE i will be fitting this to a hitachi 3d30 super woofer .
