Finally got around to replacing the battery spring on my GF-8585 this weekend. I really dig the looks and sounds of this piece and now I can take it out!!
Parts used - 1 spring from a $1 flashlight found at the dollar store. Total cost $1.

Spring modification. The spring on the left is how the spring looks just removed from the flashlight. The one on the right is clipped and modded to fit the box.
Here is an inside shot.
First step, unsolder the black wire from the rusty spring
Next, plyers and bend / twist the old spring out.
Then bend/twist the new spring in place. and solder the black wire to the new spring.

Easy mod as long as you can solder and get too and fro the dollar store.
