There is a mini jack in the back that says "remote" next to the mic inputs. There is a contact in there that connects the motor (or pasues it when you have a mic with that function).
Try plugging and unplugging a mini headphone jack in there a few times and see if it comes to life.
If not, there might be a broken microswitch in your deck that causes this issue. It would require taking the chassis out of the radio and disassembling the tape decks. Once you are there, it is a relatively easy fix with a soldering iron. Just replace it with another micro switch or it is probably easy to fix it.
If you can, check if any voltage goes to the motor of deck when you press play and trace it to the source. The connection goes through that jack in the back which is why i am suspecting this to be the issue here as I had the same thing happen on my 777.

ok i can dig it i just saw that (REM) mini jack input but i ain't got that type of jack so i have to look for that ....as for that micro switch i dunno where to find it and i'm a lil afraid to re open it to fix this without being sure that where the issues come from ...if you can tell me a lil more about it it would be great ....thank so far mmcodomino

You can just use a little screwdriver to carefully try the remote jack. Spray some contact cleaner inside and then "plug and unlug" the screwdriver a few times. ;)
It's a very simple mechanism...just two pieces of metal pushing against each other and being connected by the remote jack if it is inserted. If no jack is inserted, they are touching each other as I said and should let the power go through. However, if it has corroded, that contact can no longer be as good and by moving the cassis around a lot, it could go bad. Most of the time, this jack never gets used by the owner so it had just been left to corrode for over 35 years.
Good luck! :)

thanks a lot i did everything you said with some contact spray and a mini jack that i had but i didn't know that i have one until now...... i m so dumb...anyway so i did as you said however, it didn't work i guess that the issue come from the inside of the cassette deck ...too bad i m scared to open it and mess everything inside this baby is too precious to mess around with ...if you can try to tell me where the default is located ...if you want to of course

Have you checked if the motor gets any voltage?
If it does, then either the motor itself is dead or the belt are worn out...Both scenarios are unlikely in my opinion.
When you take the tape deck apart, you have two layers of electronic boards. One of them is the micro switch board with a lot of microswitches on it. This one needs to be checked. It seems very strange to me that it is doing nothing at all right now but I am sure it is fixable. Has it worked beofre or did you get it like this?

I think I can hear the motor running in your video.
Not sure though.
Try this if you are afraid of opening it: when nothing is pressed on the keys, spin the capstan manually counterclockwise.
Maybe the mechanism is just jammed for some reason. Doing this should free it up if that is the case. If it spins freely when you turn it, loose or gone belts are most likely the issue. If it is hard to turn that means the best and therefor the motor are giving some resistance...so they are present at least.
It's hard to diagnose the issue from the video though...you may have to open it up to fully resolve the problem.

so i did try to spin the capstan and for both deck A and B it's the same resistance and indeed you can hear the motor running when play button has been pressed down....besides when power is off ...it turns on when either i press A or B deck play button ...so
no it seems that this problem came today i never had this kinda problem before ...ealry this afternoon i tried to record a blank tape so it worked enough to record and hear music ..... then as i continued to make my mixtape i did try to record and when i pressed both rec and play button , nothing happened ... it's very stange though and i'm kinda lost

thanks anyway you guys in this site are really great ...nice and helpful ...

BTW excuse me for my english it's far from average but i try to do my best ....

So it was working and stopped all of a sudden?
After it was in record mode?
Sounds like a jammed mechanism to me now...it happens when the belt are weak. The mechanism needs more force in order to engage the record mode.
Try pressing play and then turning the cpastan counterclockwise. Theoretically, the mechanism should engage and the play head should go up.
If you motor is getting power, you have not that much to worry about. :)

no sorry i tried what you said but nothing happened i tried to turn counterclockwise all the capstain with ''play'' rewind and fwd but nothing at all ....
a friend of mine in france told me that it could came from a burned capacitor between the power section and the tape engine .

the thing is i dunno how to read scematics , i know how to solder though ...

Well, if your motor is getting power, then there is no electronic failure.
However, if you are not wether the motor is getting any power, check the inside and test with a multimeter if necessary.
Now, if this is a mechanical issue, you should be able to resolve it pretty quickly...sometimes a gear gets blocked for whatever reason or something like that.
Good luck!

Dude, I can hear the motor running. It's probably just need that deck rebuilt, standard Sharp-style with new belts.

so i need to check that up if the bets are still tight or broken ..ok but it seems way too advanced for me i m scared to do much more bad things ...so i imma wait til i find someone who can fix that i you said to me earlier fix that is not like stuff cartridge on a shotgun... it takes knowledge and skills....... thank you very much^^
