Saw one of these online - I like the styling.

Read on here they are well built.

But, also read power is rated at 2.9 watts x 2.

That's kind of weak sauce, isn't it?

I can tell you this it's a beginner box or low-end box but most of us have owned something like this back in the day. I generally like these kind of boxes because I use them for working on stuff or I take them to work. some place you don't want to take an expensive ghetto blaster.

yep probably one of the better looking boomboxes you can get in that price range new. I started with the cheapest most basic Boombox in the world from Sears and that's sharp looks like a Cadillac by comparison.

I really like the GF-6262 and the ones above that are quite good to. I’ve never heard the 5454,or 5000 series, should be decent,no thrills just a decent Boombox I would believe.

There are 4 different ways to express output power:
FTC (this is the most conservative, it indicates the minimum output across a broad frequency range)
RMS (this is always higher than FTC because it's the maximum output across that same frequency range)
Music Power (MPO)...this is usually 50-100% higher than RMS, and I don't trust it because I don't think there's a standardized method of calculating it.
Peak Music Power Output (PMPO)....this is totally fabricated, pay no attention to it

In your case, the 2 x 2.9 watts is probably RMS. I found the service manual for the GF5454 and it had the FTC measurement (2 x 1.8 watts minimum, from 100 Hz to 20 kHz). Anytime you see the word minimum, that's the FTC method, and it's usually only shown in the service manual which is usually never seen by customers. The customers are given the bogus measurements like MPO or PMPO.
