Wow sat here with a few beers and and watched this :beer2:
really an amazing piece but really love that someone loved it that much

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c650336039

got to be a record price here in japan

and the fact the winner only has 51 buys seems it was a local that bought it

unlike the 1000's of buys most proxy sites that were there to the end

I’ve bought a couple of those in from japan in the past in that colour. Great looking if in good shape.

Surprised it sold locally. Must be someone’s personal grail from childhood.

Wouldn’t mind a scan of that tag

Is it possible that it will eventually end up to be one of those sales that is't really a sale, and then comes back up for sale again?

Happens a lot on eBay.

Wow $2616.99!

It's a rare find and comes with all the accessories including the cardboard box.

Wow, big money and I’d assume the deck will need a full service i.e 5mm tubing etc.
That is correct! No matter it is kept in the time capsule or not, the rubber just goes bad.

I heard about a Russian collector who bought a NIB Sharp GF-9090 from Japan. He opened the box to reveal a true, zero hours Boombox. The only problem was that Sharp needed a complete recap before functionality could be restored!

I wonder if zero use over the years somehow affects the electrolytic capacitors!?

They can simply dry out due to age but the primary forces that affect longevity of the electrolytic caps are use, heat and voltage. So I’m my opinion, non-use does not increase the chances of a cap failing compared to a cap subject to frequent use. If that nib sharp needed a recap, it was probably due to environmental storage conditions.

Like Norm mentioned storage conditions definitely affect the electrolytic caps. Imagine what can happen if the NIB was kept in a garage in Arizona. They are designed to be operated in a climate controlled atmosphere for longevity.

Yeh, it shits me how expensive these old radios are these days. Even the sellers of base model tone boxes are chasing big $$$s. I’m glad I got in when these things were reasonably priced. With so few eBay sellers willing to ship these days, I don’t really bother scanning eBay or Gumtree with so few local sellers.

the strange thing is... the same seller is asking much more for bottom of the line shiat hitatchi lol
It’s the whole ‘1 piece’ snob situation. If I were forced to listen to a Boombox non stop and was given a choice of either an M70 or an RX-DT680, I’d choose the ‘less valuable and less desirable’ 3 piecer ever time as it sounds superior. :-)

The finish and build quality on these big 3 piece awia's is above average and these are heavy as well.

I love my three piece boxes mostly because nobody ever wants them so I've never forced to sell them lol.
Three-piece boxes are awesome I don't know how people can live without them.
