Nice try but a dream is probably all we'll ever see of a retro box with 80's quality and looks with some twenty first century technology. Lasonic did it but it's not a true quality box unfortunately, not bad but still below 80's build quality.

no major company is going to build a retro blaster with a tape deck at this point in time. sorry its just not goona happen.
this being said i still think that there is a niche market for blasters with a tape deck or better yet just build to order portable stereos.
i am surprised none of the car audio installers anyplace havent already done this. i mean theres been some attempts with people putting stuff into toolboxes or tolexed boxes but in the end they all looked pretty shite.

it would be intresting to see what would happen if someone with cash went to one of the better car audio instalation guys in there town and told them what they wanted.
a mdf boombox would be heavy as hell maybe over fifty or sixty pounds hard to move about but i am sure if you aksed they could do it.
rechargeable battery pack in there port for the charger to hook up. hell you could probably get them to throw a set of casters on the thing if you wanted.
the catch is how much are you going to be willing spend.
jvc floyd made the best scratch made box of them all i think. djyetix i think his name was ran a very close second place .
i mean if you want a new box you are going to have to make it yourself.

most of the guys making portable stereos have kind of sat on the fence with the whole deal for the last few years. jvc offering a new model of kaboom every six months it would seem for the last two years and a bit.
if you want a nice cassette based box tho no maker will do it at this point.
its still kind of arty to release on casette right now but its sort of fizzling out.
the casette jockey scene seemed to spring up then terminate over night.
i kind of think thats too bad. i mean it was a cool concept . guys circuit bending and modding there boxes adding cross faders between the two decks and onboard effects.
lasonic did what we all hoped for unfortunately tho it wasnt jvc or perhaps more fortunately because the reality of it is if they did build a reissue m90 or m70 it would never be as good at the original.

Looks nice, and has a good layout. The thing I think it lacks, is some good Old Skool knobs and switches.

You know, the Vol/bass/treble/balance knobs, and noise reduction/radio band/function selector /VU-Batt switches.

Another thing......WHY is there an EGG in your avatar? :nonono:

If you're gonna have an egg, its gotta be a Coby.

This reminds me of a friend of mine from highschool -- now a fairly prominent deejay -- who took one of those small, library-style single speaker tape recorders (the kind attorneys would use), and somehow added amps, a battery pack, and huge 12 inch speakers from radio shack, mounted them in a brief case and use to carry it down the hallway of our highschool (where boomboxes were banned.) Memories!

But I digress -- yes, I too am surprised there isn't more of a market. Everything else is retro and all the alt-hip hop types seems to want to go back to the eighties, but we do live in an era of mass marketing and I guess the major players don't see a huge marketfor this type of device. Also agree that if someone could make a quality -- emphasis on the word QUALITY -- ipod compatible look-a-like, that might even be nice. But the Lasonic? Eh, no thanks...
