Hi guys, I just put this Sharp 5P-37G boombox into service. It comes from Luxembourg. It is in good condition but some screws were rusty and it was very difficult to remove them. I changed the belts and the antennas, cleaning inside and outside ... The pots volume, bass and treble and were blocked but I was able to arrange that thanks to the WD40. The rust was also present inside the boombox. He had to stay on a wet ground for a long time. The first time I tried to use it : no sound with radio or tape :bang: . After a moment of panic I noticed that the boombox was in phono position : phew!
Now the tape works perfectly as well as the radio, the sound is very good with good bass thanks to the volume of this boombox. TV screen also seems to work but how to test it ? I finally bought on amazon an RF modulator that allowed me to plug a DVD player. Miracle, the black and white image is perfect. Well, I probably will not watch movies on this boombox but it's so nice the vintage. I would have liked to have this boombox in my room when I was young :-D ... But I had only a Toshiba RT 120 S, not so bad.

The way you first described the SP37G I was expecting to see an image of a rusted hulk akin to an old shipwreck but you surprised me with the almost minty looking box in the images. I'm pleased it worked out for you and this box now has a future in caring hands.

Hello,
I have never seen this product in France
I use special product for pots (KF brand in Europe) but in this case, the rust was so strong that I had no other solution. The sharp pots are indestructible ! After I have removed the WD40 with this.

I always loved those upright TV-Boomboxes. I'm suprised they are not more popular but it must be due to the high initial cost. I'm sure that they cost a fortune when new, as compared to a regular stereo boombox.
