Well, as if the 20/20 wasn't enough, another must have arrived at my door this week.

For me, this is a personal favourite. I don't think it was ever released here in .au which probably made it even more desirable for me. Bmoney advertised it for sale last week and I pounced. I couldn't help myself. Cosmetically stunning it looks sensational!!!!

There is work to be done on the cassette mechanism but I was made well aware of that (eventually I'll get to it!!). However everything else seems to be great. The tuner is off the hook, much better reception than any of my other radios. And, she is nice and loud and heavy. Must be time for an updated group shot soon..........

Anyway, the new JVC 838

I'd also like to say thanks Bryan for sending it so well packed and so far as well. I know a lot of people are put off sending boxes overseas but it's great when people take the time and effort to. It means a lot for us guys overseas to get hold of boomers that were never released in their own country. With a bit of research the shipping aint tooooo bad either. Nice work BMoney

I have that model and the tuner is the absolute best in my collection. I bought it from someone who was not a collector, never maintained or restored it, yet the tuner still remained flawless, with no static at all. Locks onto stations perfectly, without any "AFC" b.s. needed.

I really need to get a new control board for it so I can see what it's supposed to sound like. My bass/treble sliders don't work at all, so I'm betting it's operating at the minimum settings.

I feels good when our efforts pay off. Enjoy it!
Thank you for the purchase, and the fast payment, and the great PM conversation.
Not only do you get to check it off your list but it's another box that's traveled the globe.

Congratulations, Alfie!

Those 838's are good sounding boxes depending on what you're playing... I haven't listened to mine since last summer (or something like that),
but I still have good memories of great Spanish music playing on it via FM radio.

Take good care of that one!

Congratulations...on your JVC-838

Got my 'mint condition' - holy grail - JVC-838 today...after a very lengthy wait...its a stunning looking box for the late 1970's...great sound...even the 'bi'...only gripe, wish it had just a little bit more bass !
The JVC build quality is superb and being mint - looks like it just come out the box fresh...and everythings works a treat - cassette / radio. Very very pleased. :-D
Unfortunately, still need to convince the wife that we needed another box ! :nonono:

Any ideas where I can get a carry strap for the JVC-838 :-)
