A little belated since i've already been posting, but better late than never.
I'm Scott, 28, work as a draftsman in the engineering world.
My first boombox was a Panasonic RX-CT810 which my parents bought for me back when i was about 10. Guess that was seed planted in me.
Second box i obtained was a Sharp GX-CD1200W which i bought a couple years ago. At this stage for some reason i didn't care for boxes that didn't have a CD player. What the hell was wrong with me? Then i guess about 6 months ago it clicked for me...started to gain a passion for the 80's finest range of portable audio equipment.
And thinking about it now...units with CD players are the ones becoming defunct, as there has now been a swing away from this medium to the digital "mp3" format. Not really into that either but i soon realised that most of the 80's boxes had line in's so one could bring these machines right into the 21st century.
So now i got my old RX-CT810 back off my parents and pinched their old Toshi RT-120S while i was at it.
And i've acquired some boxes off ebay that i just had to have right away to get my collection started...didn't want the agonising wait to tame a wild breed.
Namely:
GF-990G
Casio KX-101
GF-800Z
GF-939
VZ-2000
Note that these are mainly 3 piece boxes...my taste has now shifted to incorporate the true one piece boombox as well...to which none i have gotten my hands on yet (see my wanted list). I'll just bide my time.
Subsequently picked up these for cheap along the way also:
Sanyo M W220F
RX-CW55
GF-700
Thanks for reading...i hope to get to know some of you in the future.
