Hello everyone.

After Modding my lil baby Sanyo m7880 without ever getting around to posting about it,
I decided to go ahead now that I am on vacation to start my project of Modding all my Boomboxes.
No I was not intent on destroying their collectors quality,
but enhancing their natural characteristics...

For example this Sanyo m9994...

Its shiny buttons and metalic top practically begged me to show them off in light.
Then theirs the dull bulb lighted screen.. It begged me to show its true potential!
Then their was the sad cassette compartment that cried to me, "what about me!, what about meeee!!"
So I had to do something about that as well... Lights to the rescue!
But wait those microphone holes were just too dull for such a beauty of a box,
so I had to jewel them with fake diamonds
Lets not forget those beautiful big meters on bottom just screaming for attention as well..

I did not want to diminish the collector value by changing the looks too much,
I only wanted to enhance its natural beauty, so polishing and cleaning was the second objective.
Here are the results, with more on the, "how-exactly-did-you-do-that" and pics to follow,
as soon as I get them up on photobucket :p
EDIT: here are the details on each photos link:

lol forgot to mention the lights shooting out the top controls have a lazer-beam quality to them,
as they shine lines on my hands as I touch the top of unit as seen in second youtube vid around the 7:40 mark...
EDIT: and the 1:08 mark

Also I used the existing dial light power so no noticable power drain,
and toggled it with un-used pins of the tape bias selector
.

What you just did was take the LED game to a whole 'nother level with the switches & knobs modification!!

Since you're the 1st to do it, cats are gonna be biting your style left & right - TRUST!!

Haha yea but I used different LEDs for different purpose!
The intense top leds have a more brilliant directional shine than the dial lamps ha!
Anyway I welcome all to any questions on details and just posted on first post link to photobucket pics and how -to for this model.

Its a matter of finding best points on board to tap off and make use to your benefit.

I will also make a post on my baby Sanyo m7880k mod,
and have plans for my legendary mythological National boombox but leaving for last as I need more expertise with next "lesser" boxes planned ha.
I realized after attaining most the boxes I always wanted, that I actually bored of them as they are,
the "freshness" wore off and that modding them to what I wished they would be makes them new again.
In case Anyone wondering this one will be up for grabs probably on ebay after I had my fill playing :)
Onto da next one.. Pana RX-5500

Your totally right and have a very keen insight!
After playing around with finished unit ,
I realize this part of the mod adds an incredible sense of coolness and delicacy to the controls,
Touching a lighted knob or switch is a whole new experience,
and I am finding that I am touching and handling the unit with more gently and it is a very satisfying experience.
This is probably the most satisfying part of the whole radio and I thought the tape area and meters where going to be a hit,
But the knob action steals the show!

Very nice!
When you say "LED strip" for the meters, what is that? How many LEDs are in the strip?

The 4" version works well:

there is 6 high intensity LEds there, but you can cut it down every 3 leds
Check my photoshop pics to see the LEDs I used.

finished the led mod by lighting up the last row of buttons behind the volume.
This box has now turned into one of my most beautiful boxes for now...
I have higher inspirations now , and so feel it is time to give up my pride&joy to a new owner...!
Somebody's lucky day as it will probably go on ebay tomorrow.
I will not replicate this (unless by special request) so it will be the only one of its kind!
