So I see a C9 for $80 near my location. Seller says the Cassette deck doesn't work, but everything else functions fine. I'm thinking It could be a belt but first I want to know if it's worth the $80 in the technical condition it's currently in. It's cosmetically in immaculate condition.

If it's worth such a price, then I'd have to try to convince my father to get it, although he thinks $80 is too much for something that doesn't work. I've paid $35 for a Sanyo M9909 with a Cassette deck that needs a new belt...which I haven't gotten around to get.

These are one of the heaviest and best built boomboxes there is and the sound is great , I would not hesitate to buy it for that price, just make sure the
battery holder is in the battery compartment because you can't use it on batteries without it.

Agree 100% with floyd...if i had any money i would steal it from you lol just know the cassette deck is one of the hardest to work on and best left alone

So when I showed the listing to my father, he told me to show my mother it for approval. Unfortunately, she didn't approve. She said I didn't have space for all my cheap electronics, and that the Holidays are coming up. So Unfortunately I will have to wait for Christmas, although I hope I can receive something better in turn, like a Sanyo Big ben or a JVC M70 or M90.

However, there is another route I can go. I can sell some of my junk to gain a bit of space, and allow for some higher end equipment when the time comes.

These are lovely stereo's but VERY tricky to Re-Belt  It's a total strip down job & many cables to remove & reconnect! Even when down to just the deck, it's still hard to replace belts & clean any rubber goo! When working though these are beautiful stereo's!

Hm, I think I'll go for something more service-friendly than that. I still do want great sound and for it to feel decent, not like some cheap brittle plastic back cover out of my Sanyo M9909 that feels like flexible PVC. I'm surprised it hasn't cracked or broken yet.

Believe it or not I like the c7 over the C9 smaller speakers that looks better these things have insanely powerful amplifiers. I would still buy that C9 for that price any day of the week. The C7 and C9 weigh as much as any JVC Compo box. Except the dc-7 lol.

it's actually smaller than a sanyo c9, sounds better but not as loud
Hi Sir , How's things doing ! I have both the PC-5 and the C-9 and made a comparison using a bigger Sony APM speakers for both units as constant to really evaluate their power. Surprisingly at max volume for both I think the PC-5 is a tad louder and has lesser distortion than the C9. And I noticed that the PC-5 is tuned a bit brighter and has less mid and body on the upper bass than the C9. The C9 is more neutral and a bit forward on the mid specially on voices. The PC-5 advantage is in the loudness feature sound quality. It boosted the deep bass (80HZ below)rather than the upper bass (around 100HZ up) resulting in a very satisfying tight but deep sounding bass on rather small speakers. But overall, both units are very well made and sounds excellent but with different personality. :stereo:

It's not just the looks but also using a 6 inch woofer on a small box on the C9 will produce much less bass than using a smaller woofer for the same size box. I believe a beefy 4 inch woofers are better suited for the C9 speaker box. I usually use a different speaker for my C9 and the difference is night and day from the stock speakers. The C9's potentials are maximize by this and it really sounds near "HiFi " with the right speakers. :stereo:

Manufacturer specs claim the C9 is 2x15 watts and the PC-5 is 2x20 watts.
I have never heard a PC-5, but I've heard a C9 and I think it's not a very warm-sounding model because the bass is too tight. It's more of a "loud" box with very strong mids and treble.

agree Reli the pc5 has a much warmer bass, i wouldn't buy a c9 or c7 now as by all accounts the deck is a nightmare to work on

having said that i wouldn't buy a pc5 now either unless the deck was working, despite being similar to an m90 deck it's a nightmare compared to it as it's so cramped in there....for me the deck has to work or i loose interest in the whole thing

Hi sir ! Merry Christmas ! Oh no, I'm far away from your esteem . Also, I just pick up very cheap units , usually with busted tape decks. Still, I enjoy the hunt and trying out what's out there. :ninja:
