You know that I love to repair and restoring boomboxes from time to time.
Here's the story of this Sanyo C30:
A friend of mine bought it this summer with the intention of restoring it.
The main problem is with the tuner - it does not accept the FM stations well.
My friend understands from computers, but not from repairs of audio equipment.
In the summer Sanyo carried a repair to a master and he tried to fix the tuner without much success.
I was also looking for some masters, but I did not find anyone, who wants to repair this Sanyo...
About a week ago, he brought me this boombox and I gave him a JVC RC-BX330,
which works well on tape, radio and CD, but it does not fit nicely in my collection.
JVC RC-BX330 is type "egg" boombox...

First Stage - cleaning and recovery:
I thought I had a foam ideal for insulation of the speakers and mounting it.
Now the sound will be more dense and qualitative.

I cleaned Sanyo from outside and inside, changed the belts of the cassette deck.
I cleaned the potentiometers and the keys, remove power supply and washed the rear casing.

Second stage - modification:
Some time ago I had bought a Mp3 module and thought to attach it in a boombox.

I could not repair the tuner, so I decided to use this module for this Sanyo.
I wanted to use Sanyo's power, but have some parasitic noise.
I solved the problem by using an autonomous power supply for the mp3 module.
I connected the module to the line input and tested - everything worked fine.

I found a place for the module and through a hole into Sanyo's back case.

I mounted the power supply, the keys and the module into Sanyo's back case.

I can never seem to make my mind up about this model. On the one hand it's not exactly high end, looks as if it was produced on a budget with a splash of colour that doesn't help and looks absolutely awful when grubby through neglect - but wait (I say aloud!) - as simple as this box is, therein lies the beauty of this box. If you have a clean, working model that's presented well (just like in the first post of this thread) then you have a little gem that's a pleasure to behold.

This Sanyo C30 (with 1cassette) is a little brother of Sanyo C35 (with 2 cassettes).
If you remembered, I Have 2 Sanyo C35 in grey and 1 Sanyo C36 in black:

With speaker upgrade and with mp3 module mod this boombox work very good now.
Don't forget that is free for me, I replaced one unused "egg" JVC for this Sanyo.
So, I think this was a good deal. ;-)

These days, I will upload a short demo video...

That is such a nice modification goodman.
My thoughts were similar with M.O.M , i wasnt a big fan of this box since for me it represents the
decline of Sanyo from the glory early days of 1980s ,this was a mid 80s ugly 3 piece cheap plastic Sanyo .
I was passing each time i saw one for sale and i ve seen alot.
Now this has changed and models like C-10 C-20 etc had grown on me.
Well Not much but if it happens to find one i will buy it.
You did a terrific job nevertheless.

This boom box was my HS grad present about 101 years ago. Don't know what happened to the original, but just got one off ebay recently (on a nostalgia trip). I really like what you did to this to make it modern. Also like that it looks like it has BT capability. Very cool!

Thank you. Tuner does not accept the FM stations well.
I could not repair the tuner, so I decided to use this BT MP3 module.
I can listen music from BT, USB, SD Card, Radio.
It's very good, that I can make recording onto cassette from all these sources.
