Bought it today

It was in the Sunday morning adds, so first comes-first served, and I had to jump on it despite low quality pic. Owner sounds like a fair guy.

Anyway, it is only $ 6.92 ( 5.3 € ) and it comes with head cleaning tape :w00t:

It has nice VU LED for each channel, no ugly sliders but turning potentiometers, it works, and I'm ecstatic. :-)

Better pics when it arrives and gets cleaned up :-)

BTW, has anyone ever heard of SANWA brand?

I own 2 Sanwa 7078 boxes. Got them very cheap a few years ago
Good quality and pretty loud too

SANWA is like the most known brands:
Some really great boxes
... and some really crap

This looks to be one of the good units :-D

It arrived today. Speaker masks are drying as I write. Looks decent, but I'm having trouble with deck electronics, because it starts to hum and buzz when I move the switch from Radio to Tape, without even pressing the play button.

Got to open it again tomorrow, and hopefully sort that out. Radio works nicely, LED VU is really quick reacting and sensitive, all metalized parts are absolutely untouched, like new (they were greasy, not cleaned at all, and that protected them over the years). However, the rest of the plastic is a bit worn-out. Wish I could put stronger speakers, since current ones are 6 W while the amplifier of the boombox is 15 W.

I don't think amp is 15 watts. Maybe. A couple per channel :hmmm:

You're right, it's overall power consumption of the unit, and 13W, not 15. My mistake.

BTW, it was good while it lasted. Last night I've opened it again, and stripped it to reach the lower circuit board. The reason for humming and buzzing was some big surge it faced who knows when. By the looks of it, something was probably spilled over. This second circuit board is all semi-melted, bubbly, with overheated/burnt elements, even the brass connectors on big potentiometers have gone black.

Even if it could be pimped to work at least as radio-only, I wouldn't keep it in my house and risk fire.

So, it is officially dead and moved aside if I ever need parts from it. :grim:

I just realized this Sanwa 7076 is an aka of the Emerson MM815, I'm curious how different they are. From other pics it looks like it was meant for Europe with a DIN on the back.
