a Panasonic RX-5600L ( it looks thin)
or a
SHARP GF 9494 H Ghettoblaster

which has the better sound which the better material ?

I love the old design.
and another question:
from which time, which producer was taking plastic for volume-buttons etc. Which time/which producer took real metal ?

Sorry for bad language, I'm german.

Welcome Telex!
In my opinion of the two, the Panasonic is a better sounding boombox....
The Sharp doesn't have a lot of bass.
Both boomboxes have plastic buttons and knobs.
But they are both great quality units.

The Panny RX-5600 will sound better at normal volumes and comes across as much more hifi-esque. But if you turn up the bass too much, or try to play it real loud, you hit the limits of the box real fast.... The 9494 will go louder.

The 5600L is the box for indoors and impressing friends in close quarters, and it is the more elegant looking one of the two.

The 9494 is the box you want to take to the basketball court and blast away. This one looks more like a classic boombox.

Yeah, that 5600 looks cool, always wanted to see one in real life.
As far as metal knobs go, you need to get yourself a Crown 850!

today I received the Panasonic. First I had problems with record level because of the missing knob but now all is working and it sounds really good with FM.
But one question: when I connect to a ipod touch to listening internetradio I only get a very very quiet audio. Like whispering.
What is the problem? I switched from "phono" to "DIN"....

[edit] I think now I know the problem. I have to use the 5 pol Din input and not the chinch input....
