I ve been working on a Rising SRC 2005 aka Clairtone 7978 but havent finished it yet. I just put it back on to check if its prettier with grills or with no grills. What do you guys think? More pics and info for this restoration soon! :)

To my eyes, it seems ugly without grills because it looks like something is missing.... like an incomplete boombox. Just like if a badge, knob or label is missing, it will bug me to no end. But probably the biggest reason I will never remove grills for looks is because over the decades, I have seen so many nice speakers have their cones or dustcaps damaged. If you've seen as many poked in dustcaps, whether deliberately by playful children who can quickly destroy expensive 6-way speaker systems in seconds, or by accident, or from pets, you might understand this fear for me of leaving off grills.

The easiest thing to do is straighten out the tabs on the grill so you can just push in and remove them with ease that way you still have grills but they're easily removable.

Grills, it has to be grills as it looks like a sad & forlorn dumpster find without the grills. Grill it up and make it a happy boombox again.

Custom-paint it and then put the grills back on.
I like the idea of another color behind the grills. I know that can turn out nice from experience!
