So i picked up a Rising 20/20 from Germany after a heads up from TRC-931 (thanks Chris) with the intention of fixing my current fairly mint one. Mine has a record key missing on the deck and the spindle it attached to snapped off. The plan was to buy this parts boxs that was advertised as non working and fix up the deck to go in my box.

It didn't quite work out that way as the box that arrived had different connectors to my box and although the deck looked similar there were a lot of differences and it became clear it was not going to work. Damn. No transplant so nothing left to do but fix it then.

Pretty filthy and non functioning. I found a bad solder joint on the power board and this restored radio, tape deck needed new belts, capstan wheel rubber changing and general cleaning and lubing, this went really well and i got the deck dialed in real nice. Then there was lots of cosmetic work, the case was awful and needed a respray to top, sides and bottom, speakers were discoloured cream colour so needed a lick, polish out the tuner perspex. tape door and led vu meter plate, polish chrome, grills sprayed BMW sapphire metallic black (my fave grill paint). She ended up looking good.

THe only thing i can't seem to fix is the LED VU meters are completely non operable, no life. I don't know what up with them. If anyone has any ideas or a spare VU board do let me know.

Just gotta order some aerial now and she will be finished.

The last time I had a set of Vu meters die it end up being a 10 watt resistor in the Vu meter driver board.

Hi Tre, I would also check the connectors. I can't remember it had a connector. They can corrode based on the situation it looked initially. That box was in a very humid environment.

Yes there is a connector.....it is at the other end of the yellow, orange, red and brown wires from the LED assembly. That connector is on the left side of the second pic. 4 pin female connector.

Also clean the record switch so well. like you know so many circuits go through that switch.

I took Royce's advice and cleaned the connector where it joins the board but no luck. I'm going to give the record bar another clean today too.

This was a fantastic save. Hopefully you can find the bits for the other box and have two working 20/20's. Glad this all worked out!

Your cleanup looks good. I think I have a LED/VU board here you can have. I'll dig for it.
